The Participation team recently had the privilege of taking our brilliant group of young ambassadors, the creative minds behind our quarterly Nexus Magazine Newsletter, on an unforgettable trip to Story House Egmont UK, the UK’s leading children’s magazine publisher.
This unique opportunity offered our young people a behind-the-scenes look at how some of the most recognisable children’s magazines are brought to life, straight from the experts who make it happen.
From the Art Editor and Global Editor to the Publishing Assistant and Buying Team, each member of the Story House Egmont team generously shared their knowledge, career journeys, and day-to-day experiences in the fast-paced world of publishing.
Our young ambassadors gained valuable insights into the effort, creativity, and collaboration that go into every issue, from initial concept to final print.
AJ, one of our young ambassadors, summed up the visit perfectly:
“The people there were friendly. When I look at a magazine now, I can see all of the effort and hard work put into it. I was not expecting them to be so well known, and we went there! I like how the job included a variety of different tasks!”
Their enthusiasm and curiosity shone throughout the day, and it was inspiring to watch them ask thoughtful questions, explore future career ideas, and connect their own creative contributions to the real-world publishing industry.
At Nexus Fostering, we believe in creating opportunities that help children and young people in care develop confidence, build new skills, and explore their passions. Experiences like this visit are about more than just career inspiration, they’re about showing our young people what’s possible.
A huge thank you to everyone at Story House Egmont for welcoming us so warmly and for helping nurture the next generation of writers, editors, and creatives.
