Mihaela & Mark celebrate 1 Year milestone of fostering

As Mihaela and Mark, approach their 1 year fostering milestone this November, they have reflected on their first year of fostering with us. Mihaela and Mark started their fostering journey in November 2022, Mihaela says ‘Our experience with Nexus Fostering has been very good, anytime we needed anything we received the help and support, it feels like being with an extended part of the family.’

Like many foster carers, they wanted to give back, Mihaela, 44, stated ‘the thought of helping children and offering them another chance in life is why we wanted to become foster carers.’ After getting approved in November 2022, the couple from Norfolk opened their home to a 4-year-old boy on the 3^rd of December. ‘It was just before Christmas, exactly what we had wished for’. Their young boy was placed with them on a Nexus 360 placement, which offers additional input and support for our foster carers with a therapeutic care plan, allowing them to provide outstanding service to meet the needs of the child.

Mihaela is the main carer, as partner Mark works full time as a groundsman often working away. Mark has 3 grown-up children, Mihaela said ‘a foster child is a part of the family’. Aspects of their first placement have been challenging however Mihaela says ‘we had all the mandatory training and attended other additional training which helped us with our first child, and we received full support with all that we needed’. The young boy stayed with them for almost 3 months and Mihaela said ‘the most challenging part for us was having to see the child had to leave us’.

Mihaela mentioned ‘learning how flexible you have to be’ is the most surprising part of fostering they have learned throughout the process and advises anyone considering fostering to ‘always speak with Nexus staff as they help with any guidance or advice’. Mihaela and Mark are looking forward to their future in fostering and eagerly await their next placement.
