Nexus Fostering Central foster carers Ann and Tom have lots of experience in Parent and Child placements. We asked them a few questions to learn more about their time working with us.
How many placements have you been involved with?
We have had 11 placements of parent and child.
What are the main ways you think this type of placement helps a parent/family?
It helps to keep them together and they learn life skills, confidence and how to be independent in preparation for when they return home.
What is your fondest memory from one of your placements, or a particular success story you would like to share?
We don’t have one memory we have fond memories of them all, it is when the baby develops and says the first word, gets the first tooth or walks the first step.
Why did you choose to foster with us?
Both Tom and I knew Grace and fostered for the LA before moving to Nexus.
How have we supported you in your fostering journey?
We have a good supportive social worker Tina, who is always there to answer our phone calls and will support us in meetings and takes time to talk to the parent and child and gain their views.
What is the main message you would like to get across to someone who is learning about fostering for the first time?
I would tell them to think long and hard about becoming a foster carer as it is a full-time job working 24 hours a day 7 days a week and they need to consider the impact on their family.
