Memories are Safe in a Kids Step

2 June 2015

Regular Support Groups are an invaluable opportunity for our foster carers to get together and share ideas and experiences. After all, there’s no one better equipped than a fellow carer to understand the tremendous rewards and the occasional challenges that fostering brings!

The Support Group held at our Upminster Office today is an excellent example of our carers working together and sharing ideas.

‘Kids Step’ is the brainchild of two of our carers, Debbie and Karen.

Nexus’ Assistant Director, Paul Corner explains: “Children are encouraged to find small toys and things that carry memories for them.  The items are then placed on the surface of wet concrete in a large foil tray.  Once the concrete has set, and the toys and items are securely held, the foil tray is removed to reveal a stepping stone.  This can then be put in the garden so the children can always find it”.

“Lots of our Carers joined in, sustained by delicious ‘red velvet’ cakes made by foster carer, Jill, and we all had a great time!”

If you would like to become a foster carer just like Debbie, Karen and Jill and make children’s lives change for the better, why not contact us on 0800 389 0143 or complete our online form.
