Claire’s been a foster carer with Nexus Fostering for five years, prior to this, she fostered with a London borough for ten years, so she has a wealth of experience and lots of successes, but one success in particular has given her great pleasure; winning the ‘Diversity Award’ at the West Essex NHS ‘Best of West’ awards last week.
One special lady
Claire was nominated by Anita and Bob of the West Essex Clinical Commissioning Group, who commented “We’ve seen, first-had, the time and devotion you give to your foster children, nothing is too much trouble. Your foster children are pretty diverse but are all well-loved and a real credit to you; you are one special lady!”
Claire’s fostered over a hundred children
In total, Claire has cared for one hundred and fifteen children, “some whom came just for respite but ended up living with me permanently, some who’ve come and gone, all of whom I’ve done my best for. Then there was the baby boy who came to live with me when he was just two hours old and I adopted him! He’s seven years old and has his challenges with autism, but I love him; he’s my angel!
Fostering is the best job ever!
“I’m so delighted with the award and so pleased to be working with Nexus Fostering. Two social workers I worked with at the London borough moved to work here and I missed them, so I joined them! Grace, the CEO is so approachable and everyone knows who you are. I’ve worked all over the world as a personal assistant earning fantastic money, but this is by far the best job ever, the most fulfilling and rewarding job. Mind you, I may not say that after a bad day with the kids!”
In addition to fostering, Claire is delighted at her recent appointment to join the Essex County Council Family Panel “it’s early days, but I’m looking forward to the challenge and to being part of a team that helps young families and allows me to carry on fostering”.
